Location & Size

Situated in Collier County, Everglades City lies at the mouth of the Barron River, opening into Chokoloskee Bay, and serves as the western entrance to Everglades National Park in southwest Florida. 

Everglades city is located between Marco Island and Chokoloskee and encompasses approximately 1.2 square miles, with 0.92 square miles of land and 0.28 square miles of water.

 

Founded

Settled between 1873 and 1895, Everglades City was incorporated in 1923 and reincorporated in 1965.  Once the county seat of Collier County, the city played a pivotal role in the development of southwest Florida.
