The city encompasses approximately 46.5 square miles, with about 13.95% comprising water bodies like Estero Bay and the Imperial River.

Founded

Originally inhabited by the Calusa Indians, the area was surveyed in the 1870s and became known as “Survey.” In the early 20th century, it was renamed Bonita Springs to attract settlers. The city was briefly incorporated in the late 1920s and then reincorporated on December 31, 1999. Wikipedia
