Location & Size

Bradenton Beach is a coastal city located in southwest Florida, on the southern end of Anna Maria Island in Manatee County.

It is bordered by the Gulf of America to the west and Anna Maria Sound to the east.

The city encompasses a total area of approximately 1.19 square miles, of which 0.52 square miles is land and 0.67 square miles is water.

Founded

The area now known as Bradenton Beach was first settled in 1893 and was originally referred to as “Cortez Beach” due to its proximity to the nearby community of Cortez. The city was officially incorporated on December 21, 1952.
