Founded
The history of Aventura, Florida began in the early 1970s when a group of developers, including Donald Soffer and the Turnberry Associates, envisioned transforming a largely undeveloped stretch of swampland in northeastern Miami-Dade County into a modern, upscale residential and commercial community. Originally part of unincorporated Miami-Dade, the area was master-planned around luxury condominiums, golf courses, and shopping. The name “Aventura,” meaning “adventure” in Spanish, was inspired by a comment made by one of the original developers. As the area grew in population and infrastructure, residents voted to incorporate Aventura as an official city in 1995, establishing its own government and services. Since then, Aventura has evolved into a thriving, cosmopolitan city known for its luxury lifestyle and international appeal.
