Location & Size

Dania Beach is located between Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood along Florida’s southeastern coast.   The city has direct access to the Atlantic ocean on its eastern edge and spans 8.3 square miles.

Founded

Dania Beach traces its origins to the late 1800s, when Danish immigrants settled in the area to farm tomatoes, beans, and other crops. Incorporated as the City of Dania in 1904, it became the first incorporated city in what is now Broward County. Agriculture dominated the local economy for decades, but by the mid-20th century, Dania began transforming into a coastal community with growing tourism, light industry, and marine businesses. Its downtown developed a reputation as the “Antique Capital of the South,” attracting collectors and shoppers from across the region. In 1998, the city officially changed its name to Dania Beach to highlight its Atlantic Ocean location. Today, while modern development and its proximity to Fort Lauderdale and Port Everglades have spurred growth, Dania Beach retains its small-town charm and historic roots.
